Commemorating 77 Years of Nakba: Vancouver Art Exhibit Highlights Palestinian History, Culture, and Resistance
WHAT: A powerful, community-led exhibition marking the 77th anniversary of the Nakba, the mass expulsion and displacement of over 750,000 Palestinians in 1948. This immersive exhibit traces the history of Palestine from pre-Nakba to the present day through interactive booths, art installations, and a virtual reality station that allows attendees to explore digitally recreated Palestinian towns and villages.
This exhibit seeks to educate the public about the ongoing impacts of the Nakba, which continues to shape the lives of Palestinians globally. Each booth will feature key moments in Palestinian history, showcasing archival footage, photographs, and testimonies that illustrate the cultural and political significance of the Nakba and its reverberations today. The VR station will offer a powerful, first-person experience of Palestinian towns that were destroyed or occupied, bringing to life a visual and auditory archive of places that remain vivid in the memory of displaced communities.
The exhibit will also include an art installation that explores themes of exile, memory, and resistance, created by local and international Palestinian artists. Additionally, a “Get Involved” booth will provide information on the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, encouraging attendees to connect with local campaigns and solidarity networks working to challenge ongoing occupation and apartheid.
