Vancouver, BC (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ) – June 3, 2025 – On the 58th anniversary of the Naksa—the mass displacement of Palestinians following the 1967 war of agression by Israel—Palestinian community members and allies will gather in downtown Vancouver to honour the struggle for return, and to call urgent attention to the unfolding famine and genocide in Gaza.

This year’s commemoration takes place amidst an unprecedented crisis. With famine officially declared in northern Gaza, over a million Palestinians face starvation as Israel blocks aid, targets relief workers, and bombs civilians trying to access food. The rally will highlight these crimes and demand accountability for Israel’s starvation siege—a tactic condemned under international law.

Participants are encouraged to fast on the day of the event, in recognition of Yom Arafah and in solidarity with the millions of Palestinians being starved by design. A light iftar breakfast will be served at the conclusion of the rally to break fast together in community.

“This is not a natural famine. It is a man-made tool of genocide,” says organizer Tamer Aburamadan. “As we mark the Naksa, we also mark the continuous Nakba: a decades-long project of displacement, occupation, and ethnic cleansing. We gather to say: we have not forgotten, we will not be silenced, and we will not stop fighting for justice for Palestine.”

The march will also uplift demands for:

  • An immediate end to the genocide in Gaza
  • Full access for humanitarian aid without restrictions
  • Sanctions and a full arms embargo on Israel by Canada
  • The right of return for all Palestinian refugees displaced since 1948 and 1967

All people of conscience are invited to join this evening of resistance, reflection, and remembrance.
