In the final days of the 2025 Invictus Games, it has come to light that at least one participant participated in the genocide in Gaza. In December, 2023, Shahar Shiloni, a tank loader for the 179th Reserve Armored Brigade’s 8104th Battalion, lost his leg due to an anti-tank missile hitting his tank while in Gaza.

As the 2025 Invictus Games continue in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia, a significant controversy has emerged regarding the participation of active Israeli military personnel. In a recent message circulated to staff, organizers have instructed staff to prohibit any photography of Team Israel, suggesting an even more concerted effort to hide the Israeli team’s participation in the games.

Invictus Games organizers calling participating soldiers of the Israeli Defense Forces – who over the past 16 months shot tens of thousands of Palestinian children and infants in their heads and chests on the streets of Gaza – “now civilians” because they’ve been disabled and can no longer return to commit more war crimes – is like calling bank robbers who got locked inside a vault “now security guards” because they’re stuck inside and can’t rob anymore.

As the 2025 Invictus Games quickly approach, scheduled from February 8–16 in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia, we are compelled to address a matter of profound concern: the inclusion of active Israeli military personnel in this esteemed event.

The Invictus Games stand as a testament to the resilience and recovery of wounded veterans. However, this year’s participation of Israeli soldiers—some of whom may have been directly involved in actions currently under investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide of the Palestinian people—casts a shadow over the event’s integrity.
